Servicemembers United (www.servicemembers.org), a non-partisan and non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., is the nation's largest organization of LGBT troops and veterans of the U.S. armed forces, as well as their partners and civilian allies. Servicemembers United's primary goals are:
The repeal of DADT was made possible in large part because of the aggressive organizing and empowerment of the gay military community done over several years by organizations like Servicemembers United. Now a significant opportunity exists to connect deeper into this community and strengthen the gay military community's ability to fight for the issues that impact its members' lives. Servicemembers United has always considered community building to be a vital part of its mission. Now that DADT has been repealed, SU is devoting a much large portion of its time and effort to building a strong, vibrant, connected, and powerful gay military and veteran community. "SU Gives Back" is Servicemembers United's ongoing care package drive initiative for deployed active duty servicemembers and for injured servicemembers at the National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda (now combined with Walter Reed Army Medical Center). Throughout the year we will publicize care package drives held by Servicemembers United so courts can support them .Monetary donations for Servicemembers United can be mailed to: |
