Fred spent his younger years growing up on the plains of New Mexico. From schooling, working, musical and drama activities, he learned early about involvement and commitment. Fred was also a competitive roller skater, skating out of the Texas region, winning numerous awards in dancing, figures and single-free skate.
Fred found his military duty in the sixties to be quite interesting, from electronic school in San Francisco to ship duty at Pearl Harbor and Long Beach. There were also several trips to the orient while serving in the Navy.
Returning to San Francisco after his tour of duty, Fred decided to settle in the bay area. He had an interesting career, from working in a men’s clothier, wine wholesaler, and hotels. At that time, there were two courts in the city, which meant two coronations each year. Fred became involved with the court system from the third reign down to the current reign; it has been informative, and created quite a bit of lasting history.
In the seventies, San Francisco saw a formation of another court in the city, thus the Council of Grand Dukes and Grand Duchess began to make history. Being a new court, it required a lot of hard work and being visible. Fred was elected the fifth Grand Duke in 1979 and his first fundraiser was for two causes most people don’t talk about – “Society for Individual Rights” and “Karposis Sarcoma.“ 1n 2000, Fred became a bartender at Mr. Lee-ona’s, a coutail lounge with a big heart. There wasn’t a weekend that they didn’t have a fundraiser for some charity or another, raising several hundred thousands of dollars until the bar closed, and Fred retired.
Last year, Fred was honored to have celebrated his triple decade anniversary, with special Certificate of Honors from Mayor Gavin Newson. He was also given a lifetime title by Empress Nicole the Great as “Grand duke of the Golden State of California.”
Fred has served in all positions on the board, and helped established a strong working foundation for the Ducal Court. He has received many awards, both in-town and out-0f-town, and is warmly welcomed wherever he travels. Fred is currently serving his second term as a Member of Parliament.
Recently, Fred went back to work full time with the “Swords and Plow Shears” at the Presidio, a recovery program for Vietnam veterans.
