Announcement of 2009 National Fundraising Campaign

In 2008, Nicole the Great, Queen Mother of the Americas on behalf of the International Court System and Judy Shepard of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, signed an accord of friendship, cooperation and collaboration. This year our Queen Mother proclaimed October 2009 to be Matthew Shepard Foundation Month.

This October will be 11 years since Matt's tragic death - a hate crime that has become a focal point of national awareness. His mother, Judy Shepard refused to let Matt's death be a silent, useless crime. She founded the Matthew Shepard Foundation and has been on a crusade across the continent to stop hate crimes by speaking at Corporations and Schools - all levels from Middle School to Universities - teaching mutual respect, tolerance and acceptance. Her voice put a face on hate crimes against our LGBT youth and educates all of us on the affect it has on our youth, our communities and our families. This brave woman, a Mother from Wyoming, is lobbying the US Congress to pass a Hate Crimes Bill that is inclusive of protection based on sexual orientation.

October 2009 marks the 10th Anniversary since hate crimes against Matthew Shepard caused his death. Judy Shepard, through the MSF, has been on a crusade to stop hate crimes across North America by visiting Universities, Colleges, and Corporate Businesses, talking about hate crimes and the affect it has on our youth and our communities. She has been lobbying the US Congress and Senate to pass a Hate Crimes Bill that includes protection based on sexual orientation.

The International Court Council is holding fundraising events throughout their realms this year in honor of Matthew Shepard. Our efforts will culminate during the month of October and be presented to Judy Shepard and the MSF on behalf of the ICS.

Together, the International Court System along with the MSF can make a huge impact.

On behalf of Nicole the Great, Queen Mother of the Americas, and the ICC, thank you for joining us to make a significant difference in helping Judy Shepard and the MSF in the fight against Hate Crimes!

The Matthew Shepard Foundation was founded by Dennis and Judy Shepard in memory of their 21-year old son, Matthew, who was murdered in an anti-gay hate crime in Wyoming in October 1998.

Created to honor Matthew in a manner that was appropriate to his dreams, beliefs and aspirations, the Foundation seeks to "Replace Hate with Understanding, Compassion & Acceptance" through its varied educational, outreach and advocacy programs and by continuing to tell Matthew's story.
