"Greg Ross began his life in community service
at a 'tender age' in the Iowa area. He was originally
dubbed 'Magnolia Poinsettia Hushpuppy' until one Sunday
morning a room mate spotted Magnolia in a shorty bathrobe,
and became momentarily blinded by an expanse of 'pale
flesh', and thus was born 'Lili Whyte'. Lili
has served various causes around Des Moines in the past
nearly three decades. When her friend, and former member
of the San Francisco Ducal Court, Naomi del Rey, was
crowned Empress of Iowa for Life, Lili was right behind
her, and has been closely involved at Court ever since.
Lili was instrumental in founding the Imperial
Court of Iowa in many ways. Not only did she put on
charity shows, but she helped form the first Privy Council,
helped write the original by-laws of the Court, and,
in September 1994, was crowned Empress II of Iowa. As
Empress Lili traveled the circuit and cut a swath through
the hearts (not to mention buffet tables) of many across
the country. Since successfully completing her
reign, Lili has served as Board President (twice), Vice-President
(three times), Secretary, and Reign Mother, as well
as simply being a moving force and mentor for all from
monarchs to mothers throughout the state of Iowa. In
2000 Lili's exemplary leadership was recognized as she
was tapped to become an Heir Apparent to Empress I Jose'.
Her own Court recognized her pivotal role by naming
her, and her Emperor (Michael Ferry), as Co-Founders
along with the Reign I monarchs of Iowa, a unique recognition.
Lili is amazingly dedicated to the International
Court System in a very challenging area - namely, the
wide expanses of the Great Plains. She has worked tirelessly
to spread the Imperial Court's mission not only in Des
Moines but throughout the state. Greg also expresses
the ideals of community and charity on a very personal
level. He is known among many in his city for being
someone with an open door, a welcome hug, a warm meal
and a place to stay for any and all in need. He mentors
the youth and cares for the dying, builds organizations
then teaches others the lessons to do the same in other
cities. Some say that the 'face' of GLBT Iowa
is reflected splendidly in the regal, yet warm and caring
visage of Lili Whyte." Princess Royal XIII
