Born
in France, in a not too glamourous Army hospital, The Lovely
Suzanne has lived all over the United States. She first moved
to the Northwest in 1971, and in the late eighties, made it
her permanent home. As a waitress at the legendary Quality
Pie Restaurant, Suzanne became a camp fixture in the diner
drag scene. She was publisher of the underground magazine
"The Art Rag", which featured irreverent viewpoints
of the most diverse facets of the art, rock, and gay community.
She quietly supported the gay community for years while struggling
to open her own restaurant, The Blah Blah Café in 1993,
and later The Roxy.
Suzanne earned her first title of Miss Sweetheart of Portland
IX in 1997. It started as a small bar title, but Suzanne,
along with a determined group of board members, built it to
be stronger, with each year outdoing the last, until the Sweethearts
obtained 501c3 status in 2004. She has served for years as
Treasurer and is proud to see so many of the Mr. & Miss
Sweetheart go on to become Emperors and Empresses in the Rose
Court, whom they strongly support.
She attended her first Rose Court Coronation in the seventies,
as a member of the community, and in the early 90's she became
directly involved with the Imperial Sovereign Rose Court.
After years of invested titles, traveling, producing award
winning production numbers, and serving on numerous committees
for GLBT fund-raising activities, she was awarded the prestigious
Sanford B. Director Award for Citizen of the Year.
In 2000, The Lovely Suzanne was elected by the City of Portland
to the position of Her Imperial Majesty, Rose Empress XLIII.
With her Rose Emperor, Andrew by her side, The Diversity of
the Rose still remains a record breaking reign, both in fund-raising
and ball attendance. In 2001 Suzanne was awarded U.S. Congressional
Recognition for Service to the Community. She is also honored
to hold Citizen for Life, Queen Mother, and Honorary Empress
titles in dozens of realms, and still travels frequently to
MC Coronation balls in the US and Canada, as well as holding
membership in several GLBT organizations. She is currently
an Officer on the Board of Directors of the Imperial Sovereign
Rose Court.
In 2003, Suzanne was elevated to the position of Heir Apparent
to Jose I, The Widow Norton, founder of the International
Court System. She served on the International Court Council,
and was part of the planning committee that promoted our successful
Celebration of Forty Years of Noble Deeds in Palm Springs.
She was thrilled to personally witness the historic unveiling
of "Jose Sarria Court", in San Francisco. After
Empress Jose’s retirement, Suzanne was honored to be
selected to continue service on the International Court Council
under the leadership of Queen Mother of the Americas, Empress
Nicole The Great, who is ushering in a New Renaissance in
the Court System. Suzanne is humbly honored to be part of
the International Council, and deeply respects the history
of the Imperial Court, as well as the history in the making
yet to come.
Suzanne had three husbands before she was thirty, and raised
her only daughter, Miss April as a single mother. She is a
proud grandma to Jaden and Ava, and is utterly devoted to
her family and friends. For the past thirteen years, she has
owned and operated The Roxy, a nationally famous, diverse,
all night diner in "The Heart Of The Glamour District"
in vibrant downtown Portland. She denies being 52 and "having
work done", and still enjoys doing high drag with the
best of the boys. She is dedicated to mentoring the GLBT youth
and believes in the concept of Diversity with all her heart.
