Queen Mother I Nicole's State Of the Empire Address 1/14/2017
QUEEN MOTHER I OF THE AMERICAS
EMPRESS NICOLE THE GREAT
It is my honor, for the second time in my ten year reign, to present my annual “State of the Empire Address” in the great and rightfully proud state of Texas, and the beautiful city of Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States. During her term as Governor, Ann Richards proclaimed me an “Honorary Citizen of Texas”, an honor I will always cherish close to my heart. And so, as an honorary citizen of this great state, let’s make history and send the Houston Texans to the Super Bowl!
We, of the Imperial Court System, are proud that we are one of the oldest GLBT organizations in the world, and even more proud to be an international organization serving the citizens of three great and noble nations: Canada, Mexico and the United States. This year, 2017, we join and salute our Canadian brothers and sisters as they celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Confederation, and give our love and respect to all the citizens of Canada, especially its outstanding Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. I am pleased to announce that the International Court Council and Heirs will be making a special Canadian commemorative medal to be sold with all proceeds to go to a Canadian cause, national society or organization.
It is my honor to also issue this special Imperial Proclamation for this year: In honor and recognition of Canada’s 150th Anniversary, all Canadian Courts and nobles visiting any American coronation will be introduced immediately after the Founding and Mother Court of San Francisco, starting with the Court of Vancouver and ending with the Court of Hamilton-Wentworth and Tri-Cities.
At this time would all of our veterans and active military here with us tonight please stand so that we can recognize your outstanding service to our great nation.
Tomorrow is the birthday of one of our world’s greatest heroes: The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. This is a reminder to all that our GLBT civil rights movement has come from the example and history of the Black civil rights movement. Indeed, the continuing fight for GLBT equality is the last civil rights movement of the 21st century, and now we are once again under attack.
Last year over 200 anti-GLBT bills were introduced in over 25 states. So far this month, over 44 anti-GLBT bills have been introduced and according to the National LGBTQ Task Force, 300, yes 300 anti-GLBT are expected to be filed this year alone. Of the 44 anti-GLBT bills already filed this year, 15 of them especially target our Trans sisters and brothers.
Now hear me well, the new President-Elect is expected to wipe away the current Executive Orders protecting GLBT employees of federal contractors within his first days in office, and the President-Elect has made a commitment to allow churches and religious institutions to get involved in politics and make endorsements without losing non-profit status. Many radical right wing fundamentalist leaders have already vowed not to make America great again, but morally Christian again. Our GLBT civil rights movement may soon be facing our biggest battle and right wing cultural war against us!
I urge all American Court members to get more involved. Join and now more than ever, support our national GLBT organizations, especially the National LGBTQ Task Force, HRC, the Victory Fund, your individual state’s equality organizations as well as local GLBT civil rights and political organizations. We court members can make a difference. Never ever forget that it was you, all of us, that succeeded in getting the U.S. Postal Service to issue its first stamp honoring a gay American citizen, and also successfully led the campaign to get the Secretary of the Navy to name a ship after Harvey Milk! To our GLBT youth and students and our Trans community we say: do not be afraid or discouraged because history is on our side and I believe so is God, for indeed we are all his children.
And now for the projects and goals of the International Imperial Court Council and Heirs:
In February, ABC TV will premier its mini-series on the GLBT civil rights movement “When We Rise,” produced by our friend and my Crown Prince, Academy Award winner Dustin Lance Black. It will feature a segment on our beloved Founder, Empress Jose. The actor in the ABC series will be wearing a crown of Jose’s that she crowned me with ten years ago, as the Council loaned it to the TV production company.
This coming Monday, applications for matching financial scholarships will be available to all courts through the International Jose Julio Sarria Scholarship Program. Thank you Emperor Terry Sidie for your hard work on this program.
I am excited and honored to announce the official launching of the Empress I Jose Exhibit to be displayed for the first time at the San Diego 45th Anniversary Coronation on February 4, 2017. This exhibit will be made available for selected anniversary coronation celebrations within our International Court System. Information and details will be forthcoming. I wish to especially thank Empress Galilea for her donations to this exhibit and planned International Court Archive.
Every year, the I.C.C. and Heirs urge all courts to unite and focus on a project. This year I have accepted the suggestion of Empress Misty Blue of San Francisco and this year focus on a crisis that affects all of North America, every city, every community, and every neighborhood. I proudly announce the 2017 North American Homeless Project and urge all courts to focus on this crisis that has no borders. Thank you Emperor Falcon for your hard work on this campaign.
During 2017 Pride months we will launch a “Buy GLBT” North American campaign in support of all GLBT businesses.
The Council will continue our Bayard Rustin U.S. Stamp Campaign, co-sponsored by the National LGBTQ Task Force.
We will also continue our campaign to get Jose Julio Sarria in the California Hall of Fame.
May 22, 2017, would have been Harvey Milk’s 80th birthday. During the month we urge all courts to celebrate and raise money for the global human rights work of the Harvey Milk Foundation.
I am honored that we of the International Court System will host a major event at the Stonewall 50 celebration in New York in 2019. We will establish our committee this year.
In closing, ten years ago in the beautiful Empire of Seattle Empress Jose crowned me as her successor. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve as your Queen Mother. May God bless all of our Empires, Nobles and Citizens!
