September 29, 2013 - San Francisco Grand Ducal 40th Anniversary Coronation:

There are not too many GLBT organizations that can boast 40 years of service, thus it is always an honor to be invited to Court anniversaries and the San Francisco Grand Ducal Courts’ 40th Anniversary Celebration was one of the best I have attended in my almost eight year reign as Queen Mother of the Americas.

I remember H.L.Perry who is the founder of the Ducal Court, and my friendships with Grand Duchess II Lee Raymond and Grand Duchess IV Connie and so many others.  Friday night was a four hour tour of San Francisco Bay on the ship” Spirit of San Francisco”… a most beautiful big yacht that comfortably held the approximately 150 guests.  I have not been on a boat in decades as I DO NOT SWIM !!!  I was given a most beautiful bejeweled life-jacket which I immediately put on  The steak dinner was fabulous and it was nice spending time with so many different people… the new light on the Golden Gate Bridge are breathtaking.

The Ducal Council did their 40th Anniversary up right- printing a history book, special T-shirts and medals… all very impressive.  The Coronation was held at the infamous Hotel Whitcomb (I have been coming here since the 60’s) and it was a very festive time.  The ICC presented the inaugural “Cleve Jones HI-AIDS Leadership Award” to MaMa Sandy Reinhardt and The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence… WOW, what a huge and prolonged standing ovation they received! The San Francisco Ducal Court was proclaimed the California Court of the Decade for their many years of Outstanding Service.  Grand Duke Fred Townson and Grand Duchess Collette LaGrande-Ashton, two Royal icons of San Francisco, were named “California Monarchs of the Decades” and the crowd went crazy for these two beloved and respected nobles.  International Court Commendations were awarded to David Lafever,Patrick Noonan, Hung Phan, George Olsen and Miko Thomas with Lifetime Achievement Awards awarded to Todd Barron, Kristy Cruise and Sophilya Leggs.

It was great spending some special time with my all-time favorite State Senator Mark Leno (as I have said, a future Mayor or Congressman) and Rev Don Fox of the San Francisco Night Ministry.

As it almost always happens, the Folsom Street Fair was in “full swing” for their 30th Anniversary and many of the street signs had the Leather Flag proudly on the poles.  Well, this old queen had never been to the event so I decided to go…. and I lasted only 8 minutes… almost had a heart attack as (believe it or not) I am apparently very vanilla… but boy there were lots of hot men and women!

Special Thank You's to Tiger Lilly, Fred, Collette, Sophilya, Diva a Fever and everyone with the Ducal Council. Congratulations to my great, great, great, great, Great Grandchildren Grand Duke Moses and Grand Duchess Paloma… so proud of your reign (they gave out OVER $53,000 TO CHARITY this year!) and to my new grandchildren Grand Duke Kippy Marks and Grand Duchess Pat N Leather who I call “The Black and Brown Ken & Barbie”.  It was indeed my honor to be a small part of this wonderful 40th Anniversary celebration!
